Biografie – Lorenzo Soulès

Im April 2022 gewann Lorenzo Soulès den 1. Preis im Concours international de piano d’Orléans. Zudem wurde ihm der Prix des Étudiants du Conservatoire d’Orléans, der Publikumspreis und der Edison Denisov-Preis zuerkannt. Dieser Erfolg ermöglichte ihm die Einspielung einer zweiten Solo-CD mit Werken von Debussy, Messiaen, Manoury, Murail und Benjamin, die in Frankreich glänzende Rezensionen bekam.
Für seine Mitwirkung bei der CD „Eonta“ mit Werken von Iannis Xenakis erhielt er 2023 den Preis der deutschen Schallplattenkritik.

Zehn Jahre zuvor begann Lorenzo Soulès‘ internationale Karriere, als er im Alter von 20 Jahren beim Concours International de Genève alle verfügbaren Preise gewann (1. Preis, Publikumspreis, Spezialpreis des jungen Publikums, Air France-KLM Spezialpreis und den Coup de Coeur-Preis des Schweizer Uhrmachers Breguet). Damit ist er in der langen Geschichte dieses renommierten Wettbewerbs einer der erfolgreichsten Preisträger.

Einladungen zu großen Festivals und bedeutenden Konzertreihen ließen nicht lange auf sich warten. Lorenzo Soulès ist regelmäßiger Gast beim Festival Messiaen au Pays de la Meije, beim Festival du Périgord Noir, beim Kurtág Festival im Muziekgebouw Amsterdam und beim Aldeburgh Music Festival. Des Weiteren gastierte er in der Tonhalle Zürich, in der Victoria Hall in Genf, in der Royal Festival Hall in London und bei Radio France. Beim Klavierfestival Ruhr hat er den u.a. Iberia-Zyklus von Albéniz aufgeführt und engagiert sich seit mehr als zehn Jahren zudem für die Education-Arbeit des Festivals, bei deren Präsentationen er regelmäßig zu erleben ist.

Engagements in der Spielzeit 2023/24 führen ihn u.a. mit Bartóks 1. Klavierkonzert zu den Bremer Philharmonikern, mit Beethovens 3. Klavierkonzert zum Orchestre Symphonique d’Orléans und zur SWR-Reihe „Internationale Pianisten in Mainz“.

Lorenzo Soulès wurde in Lyon geboren und begann bereits mit drei Jahren, Klavier zu spielen. Nachdem er mit 13 Jahren am Conservatoire Supérieur de Paris C.N.R. sein Studium mit dem 1er Prix abschloss, setze er seine Studien bei Pierre-Laurent Aimard und Tamara Stefanovich an der Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln fort, wo er das Konzertexamen mit Auszeichnung absolvierte. Zusätzlich nahm er von 2006 bis 2009 Unterricht bei der spanischen Pianistin Alicia de Larrocha in Barcelona, um mit ihr den gesamten Iberia-Zyklus einzustudieren.

En avril 2022, Lorenzo Soulès remporte le Premier Prix BEG Ingénierie – Blanche Selva du 15ème Concours international de piano d’Orléans ainsi que le Prix du Public, le Prix Edison Denisov et le Prix des étudiants du Conservatoire d’Orléans.

Dix ans plus tôt, âgé de 20 ans, Lorenzo remportait le prestigieux Concours international de Genève en faisant l’unanimité absolue auprès du jury et du public, et en raflant tous les prix : Premier Prix, Prix du public, Prix du jeune public, Prix Air France KLM et Prix Coup de Coeur Breguet, qui lui offre la possibilité d’enregistrer son premier disque, une belle carte de visite, qu’il consacre à Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms et Scriabine. Cet enregistrement, récompensé par un ffff de Télérama est également salué par France Musique, les revues Diapason et Pianiste. Invité par de nombreux festivals – Festival Messiaen au Pays de la Meije, Aldeburgh Music Festival, Klavierfestival Ruhr, Lille Piano(s) Festival, Verso Traiettorie – il collabore notamment avec les chefs d’orchestre Pierre Bleuse, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Peter Rundel, ainsi qu’avec le Quatuor Hermès, le Quatuor Armida, Christoph Pregardien et Fabian Müller. Il s’est produit dans des salles prestigieuses, telles que le Victoria Hall à Genève, la Tonhalle à Zürich, le Royal Festival Hall de Londres et au National Concert Hall de Taipei entres autres.

Diplômé du CNR de Paris à 12 ans dans la classe d’Olivier Gardon, il choisit alors de poursuivre sa formation à la Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln, auprès de Pierre-Laurent Aimard et Tamara Stefanovich. Parallèlement il se rend régulièrement à Barcelone pour approfondir l’intégrale d’Iberia (I. Albéniz) avec la grande Alicia de Larrocha.

In April 2022, Lorenzo Soulès won the 1st prize at the International Orléans Piano Competition. He was also awarded the Audience Prize, the Edison Denisov Prize and the Prize of the Students. This success enabled him to record a second solo CD with works by Debussy, Messiaen, Manoury, Murail and Benjamin, which received glowing reviews in France.

Ten years earlier, Lorenzo Soulès’ international career began when, at the age of 20, he won all available prizes at the Concours International de Genève (1st Prize, Audience Prize, Special Prize of the Young Audience, Air France-KLM Special Prize and the Coup de Coeur Prize of the Swiss watchmaker Breguet). This makes him one of the most successful prizewinners in the long history of this prestigious competition. The Coup de Coeur Prize enabled him to record his debut CD with works by Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms and Scriabin. In 2023, he received the German Record Critics’ Award for his participation in the CD « Eonta » with works by Iannis Xenakis.

Lorenzo Soulès is a regular guest at the Festival Messiaen au Pays de la Meije, the Festival du Périgord Noir, the Kurtág Festival in the Muziekgebouw Amsterdam and the Aldeburgh Music Festival. He has also performed at the Tonhalle Zurich, the Victoria Hall in Geneva, the Royal Festival Hall in London and on Radio France. At the Klavierfestival-Ruhr he has performed the Iberia cycle by Albéniz and has also been involved in the festival’s education work for more than ten years, performing regularly at its presentations.

Engagements in the 2023/24 season include Bartók’s 1st Piano Concerto with the Bremen Philharmonic, Beethoven’s 3rd Piano Concerto with the Orchestre Symphonique d’Orléans and a concert in the SWR series « International Pianists in Mainz ».

Lorenzo Soulès was born in Lyon and began playing the piano at the age of three. After he graduated at the age of 13 from the Conservatoire Supérieur de Paris C.N.R. with the 1er Prix, he continued his studies with Pierre-Laurent Aimard and Tamara Stefanovich at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Cologne, where he graduated with honours. He also took lessons from 2006 to 2009 with the Spanish pianist Alicia de Larrocha in Barcelona, with whom he worked on the entire Iberia cycle.
